Abstract

Background: researches have shown the maximum consumption of oxygen (as reference measurement for Cardiorespiratory fitness and the mount of physical activity) is associated with body composition measurements. The aim of this research was the study of the relationship between cardiorespiratory fitness and body composition measurements on faculty members of Esfahan University.
Method: In a cross-sectional study, 224 faculty members (178 males and 46 females) of Esfahan University, aged 30–65 years, were classified into three groups high, moderate, and low cardiovascular fitness based on the percentage of maximum oxygen consumption obtained from a submaximal test adjusted for age and sex. The variables included age, height, and weight. Finally, the data were analyzed using analysis of variance, Scheffé post hoc tests, and correlation coefficients.
Results: the result illustrated that the average of anthropometric data of men and women was different based on cardiorespiratory fitness measurements. There is also a correlation between maximum consumption of oxygen, Symptoms of body composition and Cardiorespiratory fitness for these two groups (p=0.001). Conclusion: The results of this study have shown that there is no correlation between average cardiorespiratory fitness scores and height and weight (vo2max) of faculty members in Esfahan University. It also illustrated that there is correlation between different between average cardiorespiratory fitness scores and age and size of faculty members in Esfahan University.
